Resin bonded surfacing renovates car park in Lewes, East Sussex

Lewes Castle Car Park

Resin bonded car park Lewes

Addagrip approved contractor True Grip Ltd had previously installed resin bonded Addastone to the pathways at Lewes Castle in East Sussex and were delighted to be asked back to carry out the installation of Addastone to The Maltings car park for main contractor, Cornerstone.

Surfacing requirements

The client was looking for a hard wearing surface to replace the existing car park paving, with a natural aggregate look in keeping with the historic setting.

The site posed a challenge with its restricted access and daily use by the public visiting the 1000 year old Norman castle, which meant that the 1,111sqm resin bonded installation had to be completed within a two day period. The existing surface had to be regulated and a new asphalt base was installed ready for the resin bonded system.

A Footgrade Chinese Bauxite aggregate was selected for its hard wearing properties, transforming the parking area with a durable, aesthetically pleasing surface that provides a sympathetic heritage appearance of a gravel surface without the issues of loose aggregate.

The surface was completed in May 2014.
