Porous resin bound paving for RHS Garden

Cool Garden RHS Rosemoor

Resin bound Terrabound paving for RHS Garden in Devon

Porous resin bound Terrabound surfacing was the perfect choice for this design project at RHS Rosemoor in Devon, helping to create a stunning new garden with rainfall in mind.

Addagrip approved contractor IDream Solutions was invited to install over 320m2 of resin bound pathways for the new Cool Garden designed by multi-award-winning designer Jo Thompson. The design has a strong focus on water, embracing the challenge of the high levels of rainfall experienced in the region. The garden consists of a series of curving rills which make their way through the garden, disappearing and reappearing to flow into the pond at the bottom of the sloping site and provides an excellent example of how effectively a designed landscape can accommodate heavy rainfall and flash flooding.

Surfacing requirements

With water flow in mind, BBA certified Terrabound resin bound porous surfacing was chosen for the curving pathways that follow the rills and form organic shaped planting beds, helping to reduce surface water runoff. A 6mm Hazelnut natural aggregate blend was selected to contrast with the cool coloured planting scheme and complement the dry stone walling.

The resin bound pathways offer a seamless, decorative, natural aggregate finish with good slip resistance making it comfortable underfoot and suitable for wheelchair use.  The permeability of the paving ensures that the water soaks through the surface and provides all year round access to the garden’s many visitors.

The installation was completed in time for the opening in July 2019.
