The Yaa Asantewaa Arts and Community Centre in London W9 has undergone a complete makeover to its courtyard as part of a major rebuild, partly funded by the National Lottery and Arts Council. The centre provides a platform initiating, supporting and developing cultural and educational arts benefiting diverse communities.
Surfacing requirements
The client was looking to create a stunning multicoloured paving for the courtyard with a design based on a Ghanaian fabric print. Matthew Baker of Foster Wilson Architects was the project architect recreating the complex historic fabric in an intricate design with the vibrancy of the original print. The surface needed to be highly decorative, functional and low maintenance whilst also accommodating two mature trees to offer a seamless surface.
Addagrip approved contractor, True Grip Ltd, installed Addaset resin bound in 6mm Terracotta, Rhine Gold and a bespoke Carbon blend at a depth of 18mm. A number of templates were used to create the precise eye-catching layout.
To complete the courtyard scheme, a 6-10mm Rhine Gold Addastone TP was selected for the two tree pits in the scheme ensuring the roots received adequate water and protection.
Work was completed in 2011.
