Terrabase Rustic resin bound surfacing for RHS Wisley entrance

Addagrip approved contractor True Grip was delighted to be appointed by Landform Consultants Ltd to install over 2,200sqm of Terrabase Rustic resin bound permeable paving for the entrance to the gardens at RHS Wisley in Surrey. True Grip had previously worked with Landform on the Terrabase resin bound surfacing requirement for the new Hill Top gardening science hub building in November 2020.

Surfacing Requirement

The client was looking to replace the existing loose gravel paving on the cherry tree tree lined entrance to improve the walking surface and reduce maintenance requirements. The existing loose aggregate was contained in a cellular confinement system but presented ongoing maintenance issues to deal with migrating stone. The requirement was for a decorative, natural aggregate permeable paving solution which could replace the existing loose gravel surface with minimum disruption, provide good drainage for the existing trees and offer a more durable paving.

Addagrip Terrabase Rustic, our patented resin bound porous paving system offered a decorative, slip resistant surface with its innovative no-dig installation, with minimum disruption to the cherry tree roots. The 6-10mm aggregate size in a Rustic Gold blend offered a natural looking walkway in keeping with the original surfacing aesthetics, improved slip resistance and excellent porosity.

In preparation for the new Terrabase Rustic surface, Landform Consultants hoovered up and retained the loose aggregate and removed the cellular confinement system. The base was reconsolidated and regulated with a 6mm Limestone layer ready for the new resin bound no-dig Terrabase Rustic surface. The same material was installed on the terrace at the back of the building, again around cherry trees, for continuity.

True Grip worked to a Spring deadline to finish the surface before the Cherry trees came into blossom, working around the changeable weather and ensuring minimal disruption for the garden’s visitors.

The installation was completed in March 2021.

Testimonial

‘Landform Consultants Ltd were happy to engage Addagrip to work on this prestigious project. The site was in a very prominent position at the entrance to RHS Wisley Gardens. Timing was crucial in that the work had to be completed before the Cherry tree flowering season ended and the first blossom petals fell. Addagrip approved contractor True Grip pulled out all the stops and delivered quality workmanship of a high standard in a professional manner’ – Matt Moore, Contracts Director, Landform Consultants Ltd
