Terrabase Classic for tree pits in London street scheme

Lewisham Streetscape Improvement Scheme

Resin bound porous terrabase classic tree pit scheme

Addagrip approved contractor Street Tree Care Ltd was invited by main contractor Kier to install an area of resin bound surfacing in the busy Dartmouth Road, Lewisham as part of the London Borough of Lewisham’s plans for streetscape improvement in the area. The key objectives for the scheme included managing traffic and parking, enhancement of the environment and increasing pedestrian activity. The proposal included using high quality materials in key spaces, retaining existing trees and planting new trees.

Landscape Architects/Consultant Engineers Project Centre had specified a hard wearing surfacing around the trees in this pedestrian scheme that would be highly porous but robust enough to withstand any vehicle overrun. Due to the size of the tree pit areas and usage, Street Tree Care Ltd suggested a compacted MOT Type 3 base with our Terrabase Classic Resin Bound porous surfacing system.

Terrabase Classic makes use of our patented Terrabase system with the addition of our standard BBA approved resin bound options. In this instance, a 6mm Addaset Lucerne Silver blend was selected to fit in with the grey street paving and installed onto the Terrabase system at a depth of 40mm to provide a robust, smooth, porous pavement surface that would withstand any vehicle overrun.

The result is a porous, practical, hard wearing, decorative surfacing solution to meet the needs of this busy environment.

Street Tree Care Ltd completed the installation in May 2018.
