resin bound paths for care home courtyard garden

Parkview Care Home in Bexleyheath is a specialist 24 hour residential facility offering Dementia and Respite Care in Kent.
Avante Care & Support was looking to rejuvenate the outside garden area with new walkways, seating areas and landscaping for the benefit of the residents and approached Addagrip approved contractor D C Flooring Ltd to provide a surfacing solution for the pathways.

Surfacing requirement

The client wanted to use the existing paved walkways as a base to overlay with a more decorative top surface. The requirement was for a smooth, permeable paving with good slip resistance to allow the residents and visitors to access the garden safely. As the existing paving slabs were sound, D C Flooring suggested a Terrabase Classic resin bound porous surfacing system which could be installed with minimum disruption. The resin bound surface is seamless and has good slip resistance to assist those with mobility issues and its permeability ensures that there is no surface water.

The lounges and dining areas all look out onto the courtyard garden, so the aesthetics were as important as the functionality of the outdoor space. The aim was to provide a decorative, low maintenance option that would create an inviting outdoor area with seating that would be accessible all year round and suitable for wheelchair users

A 6mm Castle Grey blend finish from the Stonebound resin bound aggregate range was selected for the main and small courtyard areas and adjoining walkways, edged with a flexible stainless steel edging strip. Landscaping was finished with newly grassed areas and planters to create a fresh and inviting space.

The installation was completed in April 2022.
