Resin bound Terrabase Classic golf course pathways

Bromborough Golf Club, located in part of the Leverhulme Estate on the Wirral Peninsula, has recently had a smart upgrade to its course pathways with a no-dig, resin bound, permeable surfacing solution.

Surfacing requirements

Existing gravel pathways at the 100 year old golf course in Birkenhead were in need of regular repair to make good pot holes and replace loose stone that had migrated into the surrounding grass. The club was looking for a decorative, hard wearing paving with no loose gravel that would require little maintenance and provide good access around the course for all. Good permeability was also important to ensure that the paths remained water free in wet weather.

Thelwell Flooring Ltd, an NCC Addagrip approved contractor, offered a Terrabase no-dig surfacing system to provide a long lasting solution which could be installed with minimum disruption and without the need for an asphalt base.
The Terrabase system consists of a heavy gauge geotextile fabric and a gravel stabilised grid topped with either a Rustic or a Classic resin bound finish. The Terrabase system is installed onto a base build up of type 3 MOT, topped with a 30mm depth of finer compacted limestone, offering fast installation with minimum groundworks.

The client was looking for a red paving option and selected a Terrabase Classic system using a Stonebound 6mm Vanstone Red aggregate blend to offer a smooth, seamless, porous finish.
The old paths were dug out and edged ready for the Terrabase Classic. New steps were carved into the tee bank on the 3rd hole and an extra wide golf buggy park area was created.

Work was carried out in June and July 2021 and the client invited Thelwell Flooring back in Sept 2021 to install more Terrabase Classic areas on the course.

Testimonial

Thelwell Flooring has had great feedback from the client regarding the new surfacing.

‘All the members are so happy these paths are being installed in some of the wetter areas around the course. This will provide much needed cleaner and safer paths for winter leaguer golf all year round, offering low maintenance, long lasting paths for many years to come.’ Mike Thelwell, Thelwell Flooring
