Addagrip approved contractor True Grip was delighted to be asked to install Terrabase Rustic resin bound surfacing for pathways at The Spa Hotel, Tunbridge Wells, as part of a stunning design created by award winning Sandstone Designs.
Surfacing requirements
The Spa Hotel wanted to transform their existing gardens, which were very simple with a small wedding gazebo, into grounds that reflected the grandeur and prominence of the Hotel in the town. They wanted to create a venue for weddings and also outdoor events and performances.
The gardens of the hotel are gently sloping and so Ali Dempster, Owner and Designer at Sandstone, created a design that resembles a shallow Amphitheatre. Fine cast stone makers Chilstone supplied a hand-crafted stone cast temple as the wedding venue and outdoor entertaining space, which is placed at the centre of the design. Rings of terraces wrap around the temple so that there are flat areas, which create a venue for both intimate and large events.
Terrabase Rustic resin bound porous surfacing in a Rustic Beach blend was selected to create an inviting, decorative pathway that would lead guests and couples through an archway and towards the temple. The natural aggregate finish is in keeping with this beautiful rural setting and offers a low maintenance, hard wearing quality surface to showcase the temple and complement the planting scheme.
There will be year-round colour and interest in the garden, with scented plants such as lavender, rosemary and honeysuckle included for guests to enjoy on summer evenings in particular. The planting, with low evergreen hedging and specimen plants supplied by How Green Nurseries, has created a flexible space. The design also beautifully frames the view over the North Downs and rhododendrons in the Spa’s grounds, which will begin flowering in late spring.
Work began during the autumn of 2018, with completion of the hard landscaping in spring 2019. True Grip installed 60m2 of the minimum dig Terrabase Rustic in January to create the seamless walkway and with planting finished at the end of April, the transformation is complete for the busy wedding season ahead.
